F-18 Hornet projectile hits A-4 Skyhawk wingman

Video Title : F-18 Hornet projectile hits A-4 Skyhawk wingman
Description : The F-18 Hornet in the picture is painted in the Blue and White paint scheme used for prototype testing before fleet introduction of the design to the Navy and Marine Corps in the early 80's. This was most likely a stores jettison test with the A-4 Skyhawk wingman observing and filming the event which obviously malfunctioned. The store was probably an ordnance rack, fuel tank or some other suspension device which was tested for proper separation when jettisoned by the Test pilot.

snake eye only refers to the fin assembly. Retarding fins to be specific.

The bomb dropped was a Mk 82 fitted with snake eye retarding fins but it is not a 250lb as the narrator mentions. That would make it a Mk 81 which it is not because the retarding fins look different on a mk 81. Also it looks to me that the reason the bomb hit the other aircraft is because the pilot jettissoned the vertical bomb ejection rack which the bomb was still attached to instead of only the bomb. This caused the bomb to fall eratically and collide with the other aircraft.

That's what it looked like to me too.

Gotta love those ACES !

Ahh finally we have someone smart post. =]
