MyLegendarySelf...I apologize for offending you...but I was responding to your suggestion that my brain has not begun to function...that was quite insulting and petty, imo. You have obviously run out of any evidence to support your beliefs. Everyone knows that a person without a brain is not a "person" in our society. We have a right to end the "lives" of ever other brainless living organism. You have no legal standing.

Evidently there was life in that young man. Or he woulndt have survived. Heck, plants are alive and people fight to save the trees...

Brain-dead patients can "survive" on life support for a very long time...that does not make them any more alive legally. The legal guardian of the patient is allowed to remove life support at any time...even if there is a chance of recovery. Many would call this "sick" but doctors allow those responsible to weigh the cost (financially, physically, and emotionally) of waiting for recovery. But this is a LEGAL PERSON who died. A brain-dead fetus has not yet gained that legal status.

kate33fl, could you go up to this child and say, "I thought you should have been killed when you were younger, but I guess it's legally too late now"? How can you see the results of that fetus, the natural changes and growths it makes on its own, the resilience and brilliancy of life, and still argue? It's not just ignorant, it's sick.

I don't have a say when a mother is choosing to continue their pregnancy or not. I definitely think that the "natural changes and growth" that takes place in the womb is an amazing process. I am always amazed when I observe God's creations. But, before 13 weeks gestation, there is no brain function. God did not mention when He believed a fetus' life was sacred, but there are ancient Christian laws in the Bible that suggest an embryo/fetus is not considered a legal "life."

So now it's 13? It was 16 before. And I have no legal standing? Psh...

Sorry for the confusion. While researching...I came across ONE study that suggested the brain becomes active BETWEEN 13 and 16 weeks...so I upheld my unbiased opinion about medical research and refer to this document for debate purposes. The others say at 16 weeks...which I previously suggested that a particular week was too close a call...hence my purpose of choosing 13 weeks...not 16 weeks...as my personal opinion for the cut-off for elective abortions.

The simple, doesn't even need to be said, fact in all of this, though, is this: You have no right to take something as uncertain, yet wholly sacred, as when a human person begins life and just fiddle around with the time this happens, risking killing. a baby because the reality is you don't know if you're right or not. Kate, don't take chances when there's the risk of killing other people. You'd expect no less from others regarding your early life. Give others the same respect.

Well everyone has their opinion. I'm not trying to convince anybody. I personally believe that the whole "brain dead" theory is just that, a theory. A theory based on study. And studies vary and get new developments as time goes by. And as those theories vary, so do our opinions.

I COMPLETELY AGREE!! Well, I do disagree (halfway) with one part. That the "brain dead" theory is JUST a theory. It is the latest "theory" that disproved the previous belief that brain activity occured at 40 days gestation. I put quotes because it is not a theory. It is an observation. But, who knows, with more modern tools and more knowledge, we might find more stuff out about an embryo. But, for now, you can't force laws on people because of your opinion. The facts prove my case..not yours.
