buran unquestionably better design, but so it should be as it was newer. Ultimately, the shuttle and buran both examples of gross overspending of taxpayers dollars as its very wastefull to push all that weight up for nothing.

Tax payers in Soviet Union???

lmao duh...

The Buran had a maximum payload of 30 tons. Look at wikipedia. Don't start to dream of russian superiority. @Fedotof: 200 tons? Was the Buran ten times as large as a Space Shuttle? Stop dreaming.

It would help greatly if you actually did some research other than Wikipedia that ANYONE can edit as they see fit... The Buran does not have main engines like the shuttle... so it has both the extra space and the lack of these main engines makes it lighter thus able to carry more cargo.. The lift is provided by the Energia rocket which is beyond a doubt more powerful than anything the American currently have and even NASA has considered it for a Mars launch

@standauffish: It is just a question of common sense. Engines or not: you don't get 100 tons or even 200 tons of cargo in a shuttle as large as a Buran or the Space Shuttle. The Buran with its 30 tons has already a significantly larger amount of payload than the shuttle. I would like to see a source which originates, that NASA thought about the Buran as a vehicle to go to mars. You are quite aware that is a bit different to build a orbiter or a deep space vehicle?

Dang it you can't put links in here... sucks.. put this in search and click on the "new Scientist" link dn936-1_575.jpg For the NASA Mars thing... search "Marsnrgia" then click on "Energia Power" and you will see the Mars concept with the NASA logo on it I am aware of a great many things my friend... if you only knew ;)

Sorry, can't find the link - throw me a PM. You mean the rocket? OK, that's another thing, the Energija is quite a capable rocket. Certainly able to put quite some things into space. What other great many things you mean? ;)

But can you find me documentation? It would really help... thanks

Can you read in russian?
