My grandfather's crew was fighting a bf109 and a FW190 when they crashlanded coming home from Schweinfurt 14 Oct 1943. Bombardier told me that the 190 came in head-on and he could see pieces of the cowl flying off and an exposed piston for the split second they slugged it out, with the plexiglass exploding all around him. GF--left waist gunner--was hit in the head by a piece of exploding 20mm. Both said really scared the gunners was the flak because they could do nothing about it.

Yeah great heroes bombing little children and their mothers. Remember Antietam today. Just hissing my flag.

Yeah, we sacrificed over twelve thousand of our own at one battle ending slavery, and 80 years later we helped wipe out the 3rd reich.
On this date:
In the course of two days, September 29—30, 1941, a special team of German Nazi SS supported by other German units, local collaborators and Ukrainian police murdered 33,771 Jewish civilians. The Babi Yar massacre is considered to be "the largest single massacre in the history of the Holocaust".
Kind of makes Antietam the antithesis of Babi Yar.
|
we could also imagine the horror as it fell from the sky in flames, after it been hunted by Focke-wulfs190
