Not an A-6 it's an S-3 Viking

Worked on A6's while in VA-85.There is no refuling probe on the nose and there is WAAAAAAY too much room in the cockpit. Its a Viking.

When were you with VA-85, Charlie? I was ship's company USS America 1988-1993, OP Div (Photo Lab).

Didn't even have to watch the video to tell it wasn't an A-6 Intruder. The audio gave it away big time as to what kind of aircraft it was. The plane in question is the S-3 Viking aka "The War Hoover"

Again.. having never been on board an S3 or an A6 I don't know what they sound like from inside the cockpit and in my experience aircraft sound different from the inside than they do from the outside. Good call though! I like that: "war hoover" I was in the US Navy for six years and never heard that! :-)

Listen to the audio again, besides the high pitch whine of the jet engine what else do you hear? Sounds like a vaccum cleaner doesn't it. That's how the S-3 got the nickname "Hoover"

Tough to tell what the bird is from the inside. The person who originally sent me this said it was an Intruder but I'd buy it was a Viking. Never flew aboard either one so I wouldn't be able to tell...

Definately an S3 Viking, cockpits all wrong for the A6

that's not an a-6. looks like an s-3.
