These so-called Christians seem to have forgotten what Pope John Paul II said when he came to Lebanon:"One of the factors that create unity in a nation is a sense of dialogue with every brother & sister, with respect for their particular sensitivities & different community histories..this basic attitude of openness is one of the essential moral elements of democratic life & one of the essential means for developing solidarity, renewing the social fabric & giving a new vitality to national life."

Sorry for the double post, but I just want to add that if you try to make a Christian-only country, it will end up just as racist & militaristic as Israel -- always fighting with its Muslim neighbors. And if Lebanon becomes a Muslim-only country, then how is it any different than all the other Muslim countries in the Middle East, it would just be a baby-Syria/Amman/Tehran/Riyadh?

I rather have one Christian country with 100 km2 than a Muslim-Christian country of 10,000 km2 where we have been attacked by all Druze and Muslim sects since the beginning of the Arab Conquests. We Christians have always been democratic and if it were not for us Lebanon would not have been what it is today. We need federalism and that is the true LF, Christian and Muslim spirit. We Christians have always tried to talk, make peace but what have we been given? Just disaster! Federalism now!

So you're saying Israel's constitution is a good one: a country based on religion? No matter what the different religions in Lebanon did to one another, peace can be made. Whites enslaved blacks FOUR HUNDRED years in the US and they made peace in the end. In Europe and all around the world countries are uniting because there is strength in Unity. And you want the couple Christians in Lebanon to break off? I lived there and that doesn't work. Some of my best friends are Muslim, not Maronite.

The break up will come, it is just a matter of time ;)

Divided? Like what the Europeans ordered after the 1860 civil war? We saw how successful that was! A Lebanon cut off from the sea and the inter-mountain plains? Patriarch Hoayek's wisdom was that Lebanon must not be a Christian only country or a Muslim only country, but a democratic country where both can live together. Where were you when the Pope came to Lebanon & told us our mission is to be peacemakers with our Muslim brothers?

You make intelligent and logical arguments. Come to the North and teach my family and neighbors a good lesson for me :) LOL We'd be the same as Israel with a constitution built on exclusion and religious intolerance. I'd rather have no Lebanon than an intolerant, uneducated Lebanon.

Agreed brother!! No country works for the benefit of it's neighbour. We need to protect oursleves and have good allies. Anyone who has read "Waylon L2oumattin" would agree. You want it done best, do it yourselves Lebanese: Unite and work for the good of your country :) Who cares about religion. As Carol Sme7a sang for the Ra7ebne: "2na khayak bil 2insaneye."
