yes it must be Polebrook, in these early high altitude raids, which were top secret, RAF aircrew were you used as guinea pigs, using the still embryo B17, trained, assisted and joined in flight by USAAF "observers" before Americas entry into the war, and to test their theory of daylight precision bombing.
b-17 was one of the major reasons the allais won the war, in my opinion :) best plane ever

Its RAF Polebrook, near Peterborough. 90 Sqn's first raid was on 08 July 1941 to Wilhelmshaven. On 08 Sep 1941 three aircraft were lost on a raid to Oslo and the B-17C was deemed unsuitable for such raids. They were then diverted to other duties; mainly Coastal Command.
