White tigers are rare, but not a species. They are severally inbred. That's why they are rare - one of the reasons - BECAUSE IT IS NOT NATURAL. THEY ARE ALMOST NEVER IN THE WILD.

The white color is the cause of a recessive gene. While you don't necessarily have to inbreed to get a recessive gene to show up, that's what zoos are doing just to have white tigers in captivity.
