A collection of unusual aerial photographs of the Sphinx on the Giza Plateau in Egypt, music by Patrick Leonard/Shenkar - "pudusu" from their CD "udistam". The Sphinx is classic in its structure and form. Its body is a beautifully proportioned carving out of one piece of limestone bedrock on the edge of the Giza Plateau. The Sphinx of Giza is about 240' long and 66' high. John Anthony West and Dr. Robert Schoch, a geologist/geophysicist, from Boston University, presented the idea that the weathering on the body of the Sphinx and walls of the Sphinx enclosure had been created by precipitation - over a long enough period of time to create the deep fissures and smooth rounded shapes you can see, particularly on the west and south walls of the Sphinx enclosure. Detective Frank Domingo, a senior forensic officer with the NYPD applied his expertise of identification techniques to compare the facial structure between the Sphinx, and the Pharoah Chephren from a statue in the Cairo Museum. The attribution of Chephren being the builder of the Sphinx is partly because of this discovery and dedication given by proxy, reports suggesting they look similar. Take a good look. Reminds me of the Thundercats lair... reckon the Cromagnum folk (spelling) made it myself... dudes got civilized before they went extinct... they were much stronger built than us, giants... or maybe it was something else, something that burned its dead, leaving no trace... odd that the head is so tiny though... retouch?
Thank you! no retouching, but i sure wish i had the skills to be so good with photoshop :-)
Some people feel the Sphinx is a remnant from Atlantis, which relates to your comment "dudes got cvilized before they went extinct".
I very much enjoyed the vid - I didn't mean you retouched it though, I meant the Egyptians might have, from an original head... because the head seemed so small. : )
thank you again :-) you can see where my head is at (pardon the pun) i agree with you, or at least if not the egyptians some one!
I didn't realise it was in such a terrible condition....sad. I also tend to go along with the Leo connection.
the appropriate conservation of the Sphinx is a huge challenge. some of the problems today stem from effect of the acids from pollution with the limestone. it is sad to see, one of the fascinating aspects is comparing how amazing the original carving must have been (carved from one piece of limestone bedrock), and the repairs today... some of the original body is now covered with small (in comparison) bricks, we will never be able to see the Sphinx and the original stone again...
they say the head was carved out of the original head which was of a lion... in act the sphinx is aligned with the constellation of Leo. The strange proportion of this head to the body seems to give credence.
its a wonderful mystery isn't it! we often see video footage of the Sphinx from the air, but the stills gave us a chance to focus clearly on the unusual proportions of the head to the body - ancient Egytpian sculpting is usually lauded for its extraordinary sense of proportion!
