Unlike the last generation of jumbo jets, like the Airbus A-380 which seats 550 passengers, the 787 is smaller. The Dreamliner is designed to carry up to 330 people, and to access regional airports. And it is lighter, made from composite materials, primarily plastic. Boeing's main competitor, Airbus, may be at a disadvantage today, but it is not standing idly by. It is also developing a new generation of airliners. Airbus's Barbara Kracht says, in an industry that is growing at a rate of 4.8 percent a year, there is room for both aerospace giants in the marketplace. While sales for the 787 Dreamliner are brisk and Boeing's immediate future looks promising, there are still concerns. Unforeseen production delays would cut profits and the airplane has yet to actually fly.

Why is there a constant battle between Airbus and Boeing? Both make great planes and in my opinion no one is better than the other, just try and get along ok?

ouch, lay off buddy. It's pretty rare that I care at all who made the plane i'm flying on. I guess I would find it silly to measure the quality of an aircraft by how many people get to fly with me. I'll fly whatever plane gives me the most room and gets me their the quickest. As an American I can acknowledge Airbus must produce a quality product of the U.S. military purchases them for mid-air refuelers. I get tired of this international view of the "dumb american." Every country has idiots...

But they must deliver both 787 and Tanker as well before they got fined again!
