Here are some quick tips for powering up in River City Ransom! Begin with saving up as much cash as possible while staying alive (via visiting various food shops). Once you have saved up about $30 or so, you have two choices. You may buy one of the books available in the Flatirons Books store (at Flatirons Mall) - you'll want either the one that gives you three kicks per button press or the one that gives you three punches. Or, you can start working on your stats first. You'll want to do both, of course, before moving on to more advanced powerup strategies. For stats, I'd recommend building up willpower (donuts at Grotto Mall's Metro Bakery) and defense (egg rolls at Mao's Cafe in the Waterfront Mall). For kick and agility, check out Happy Feet Shoes at the Flatirons Mall. Also at the Flatirons Mall is Amy's Sweet Tooth for cheap stat boosts.
Once you're strong enough to fight the two boss characters shown in the beginning of this vid, defeat them repeatedly for easy cash. You'll want enough to stock up on Omni Elixirs at Jones' Pharmacy (Waterfront Mall) and expensive but very worth it stat boosters at Merlin's Mystery Shop (there's a secret door to it in the Armstrong Thru-way #2, about 3/4ths across the screen).
