all fashion trends are global. in the 1950's, this attire was a universal characteristic of this era, not just in the US. Just because you've seen 50's/60's American movies with people dressed like this, doesn't mean people from other nationalities didn't. if you're so distracted by the costuming rather than appreciating improvisational aussie humour, then don't bother watching.
