Nokia 6600 fold - Design story

Even though I know what the outcome will be, I still find myself often looking to my closed 6101 to see what time it is. I can never see the clock and have to open the unit, then activate the screen backlight, to see the time. The only thing the external screen is good for is seeing if I have a new message or missed a call, however, even then I can only tell which is which by the pattern the illegible text makes on the screen. I'm looking forward to using the 6600!

Pardon me. When I say, "The only thing the external screen is good for...", I mean the only intentional action on my part. I do like being able to see on the external screen who is calling. Thank goodness the backlight activates on incoming events.

Hey, on some phones, pressing the power button turns on the backlight for a moment. Have you tried that?

Hello! On the 6101, doing what you suggest takes two actions: open the fold, push the power button. I must do this tens of times, every day. This means that if I use my phone to check the time, I am always viewing it on the inside, always after the two-step sequence, above. The UI designers put a clock reading on the external screen, which is almost redundant. However, the 6600 designers' tap functionality makes far better use of the phone as a closed device. I like that. 8^)
