In 1941 the Coastal Command received the first Liberators and the gap i the Atlantic was closed. Gradually the Command was reinforced with better equipment and other new aircraft as the Bristol Beaufighter and De Havilland Mosquito and the number of successes in fighting the U-bots and surface vessels increased steadily as did the number of pilots shot down over the sea resqued by Coastal Command.
