Oh and it burns about 2.2 tones of fuel an hour and has a max fuel load of 28530 kgs........

Wow...You mean the BBC got it wrong. I thought that was impossible. LOL

As the basic weight of a Hercules is about 39 tonnes and the max all up weight is 70 tonnes approx. So unless the aircraft had no fuel in it then it couldnt have gotten airborne. Trust me I know.

It cant have been 30 tonnes.

Why not?

Max airdrop capability is 42000lbs. The newer ones (J model) might have a higher capability. This one was not a newer model
