It doesn't explain how the girl got in David's place so fast though... Any ideas?

As the rig starts to move up and then to the left, you will notice that the lights directly behind the bottom of the rig go dim and then seem to go off. That's where the black sheet that shields david when he drops off of the moving rig down behind the table. As for the girls, he uses twins, which is a common thing done in magic tricks. Also, the knots are naturally gimicked, the other ends which are supposedly tied to the rig are most likely just velcroed on.

One of the twins is already on the rig when the trick begins.

yeah i would think the girls are twins and when david gets on, she is behind the back curtain, if that true, she can also help him untie if necessary

that actully does reveal it because david moves a distance from the girl then does the trick

she doesnt tie them properly
