I just heard this song for the first time, and i had to cry too. The voice of Victoria is so pure and it does not matter what she sings, it is always so pure and clear. I knew her name and that she was world-famous but never heard her in a life concert, and before a few months i never heard her singing. Thanks to You-Tube i am so glad having heard her voice. For me she really was an "Angel" .The most beautiful voice i ever heard.! |
@meltzerboy she does sound amazing here. and very true she was never cold for such a clear voice. everything she sang always had a sunny quality to it. |
Incredibly beautiful song! |
Even in her last years, the crystal clarity of her voice had no equal. She was one of the few singers I ever heard deliver an entire evening without once using any "effort" to sing. Not one of her colleagues could make that claim. This is so very late for her and yet it sounds no different than when she was a young woman. |
A true great of opera. It is entirely appropriate that this wonderful singer was given this honour. She was truly astonishing in so many roles. Her 'Madama Butterfly', with Bjorling, remains (I believe) the very best recording of that opera - and that is saying something when the competition (including Tebaldi and Bergonzi) is so fierce. |
Beautiful Victoria....
Hermosa Victoria
I love this song and i love ALEJANDRO ALDONZA´s versio. Take a look, and tell me
beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =) |
Even at the age of 65 and being a ex orchestral player, this lady still makes me cry, with her almost child like beauty of her voice
Thank you Victoria.
Vaja con dios. |

Victoria de los Angeles at the age of 70 has the purity of tone and firm technique of a singer half her age, except that no singer of 35 is as good as she is at this event. Often, voices that are pure sound cold, but that never was true of de los Angeles' voice and singing, which was always imbued with controlled passion. She was surely one of the greatest sopranos of the latter half of the twentieth century. |
i see this closing ceremoy while i was only 4 yrs old.i remember the sweet voices of this old lady and i able to watch again in u tube. tq lochness 11 : ) |
Yes, this song is a Christmas song. The complete lyrics talks about a group of birds and their joy for Christ's birth. So the best Lady is The Virgin Mary. |
How marvelous! |
Meu Deus, coisas assim fazem a vida valer a pena. |
I've received a few comments re the (1995?) tour. One in particular---following a recital the Hall Manager went into her Dressing Room, and she was sobbing her heart out.She explained she had never in her whole career been showered by coloured paper streamers from the appreciative audience. |
I forgot just how emotional I became when hearing this song. I was so incredibly fortunate to hear her in Australia. I cried then and I'm crying now. Just so beautiful |
It certainly is! Her poor parents, who didn't have much money, asked their priest for permission, and he agreed. It wasn't a stage name, but in her career it describes sweet Victoria so exactly. |
I second to that! I don't speak Spanish, but I guess that "Victoria de los Angeles" must mean something like Victory of the Angels. Is that correct please? |
For me she has been the better artist than Caballe! Why? because Caballe killed her voice with to heavy stuff - only able to sing the high notes after that in pianissimo - without attack! Only to say I am a Spinto what she wasnt! And La des los Angeles sung evry time good and intelligent never with to much ideas of beeing more dramatic! A REAL ARTIST and GREAT SOPRANO! Divine! |
