In some documentary ages ago, think it was on the ovation channel, people close to him said he was infected with HIV in NYC during the recording of his solo album & he learned he had HIV soon after. They said he was in a severe depression and locked himself in his Swiss home alone. Only Mary Austin was able to get in touch with him because he didn't want to talk to anyone not even his doctor. Not really sure which are the accurate accounts because there have been so many reports.

How in the world can anyone even compare Freddie to any 'artist' now? The most 'popular' nowadays are generic copycats that sing w/ the help of technology and are considered songwriters because they were in the room when the songs were written.
