Porsche 911 GT3 v Gazelle Helicopter - Features

Video Title : Porsche 911 GT3 v Gazelle Helicopter - Features
Description : There have been plenty of car v plane races throughout history, but nobody's ever raced a helicopter. Until now. Tiff's driving was at its most awe-inspiring, and the flying is simply spectacular. The Gazelle is one of the fastest helicopters in the world so what's going to cross the line first?

The Dauphin(Dolphin) is faster than Gazelle(but far less agile),it also have military capabilities,is name was changed recently to Panther in french army

the gazelle is a french manufactured helicopter, which also has military capabilities, i would consider it the best helicopter out there, Even better then the overloaded apaches. This helicopter is very agile and versatile

yes though 1 shot from an rpg and a gazelle is down. gazelle = for transport reasons apache = fighting

The apache is just a big and heavily armed helicopter. The gazelle also has anti-tank abilities but is really lighter. Though it's not one of the fastest helicopters as we've been told in the video. Against the last generation Tiger this car would've lost ;) Anyway you can't compare a helicopter that flies perfectly free and a car that has to follow the track.

The Westland Lynx still holds the record at an avg. of 218.75 knots over a 2 way course. The S-92 has been in production since 2006. PHi operates a few of them in the Gulf of Mexico. Also, the max speed for the S-92 is not 267mph, it's only about 190, which the gazelle will beat by 4 knots. The gazelle's max speed is 167 knots(194mph).

Let me correct myself. The Sikorsky X-2, dont know why i put S-92. X-2 is its experimental number. You can view the helicopter on Sikorsky's web page. Fastest helicopter in the world. Counter rotating main rotors with a airplane style push prop where the tail rotor sits. At 200 mph forward air speed, the main rotors slow down 80% to avoid retreating blade stall and the prop in the rear takes up the slack pushing the helicopter to 267 mph top speed. I was wrong to say S-92, i meant to say X-2.

The X-2 isn't really a true helicopter though, it's a compound helicopter. The counter-rotating rotor design is for anti-torque. The "pusher" prop provides the primary thrust. It's a hybrid kind of aircraft. Slightly more helicopter than a tilt-rotor, but not by much. A true helicopter's primary source of lift, thrust and directional control is it's main rotor system.

I agree. The lift and primary thrust comes from the counter rotating rotors. The pusher prop is only engaged when the aircraft reaches 200 mph. Any flying below that speed is all from the main rotors. Did you also know the main rotor blades are tappered for better performance. My father is James Corey, 35 year Veteran Pilot. My brother is a helicopter pilot. Ive been in more helicopters than most pilots and i have flown them as well. The X-2 will be full production very soon.

["There have been plenty of car v plane races throughout history, but nobody's ever raced a helicopter. Until now."] -Not true. In the October 1986 issue of Motor Trend, Bob Bondurant's Gazelle helicopter(N101CL) raced a 1985 Lamborghini Countach LP5000S. The Gazelle smoked the Lambo around Sear's point raceway in Sonoma, CA. Beat it by 6 seconds.

In reality, the Gazelle would own the Porsche.
