Molecular evidence suggests that whales are closely related to the artiodactyls. That is their closest modern relative is the Hippo. They both share a common ancestor.

Frank "Fish", the Marine Biologist?
That's funny!
so there should be a lot of junk dna to further prove that whales used to have legs, etc.... btw, is morphology an exact science? can dna evidence back it up?
thank you for at least admitting that .
whales didn't come from mesochynids, now scientists believe they are more closely related to the artiodactyls.
Yes, the belief now is that their similarity to the Mesonychids (ex: triangle teeth) stems from the fact that Mesonychids and Artiodactyls are sister groups. Mesonychids became specialized carnivores whereas most Artiodactyls became herbivores. Whales evolved from a very early Artiodactyl lineage when most members of the group were still generalized omnivores.
yea.
Mesonychids became extinct in the Eocene-Oligocene extinction event.

Isnt it funny how we who are so bipedal use this same primal motion for nothing but sex...we jumped past the animals a LONG time ago and since they we have just become animals of pleasure and destruction.

Hey, that's Liam Neeson! I recognized his voice rightaway!
