This is not only a warning about renting Hyundai's in Costa Rica, but also a testimonial about how much these vehicles can take. We took this little baby up to the mountains to swim and tour two arch waterfalls on the Nosara River.
The Jeep Renegade turned around cause they said the road was to bad, and it was. Washed out in many places after the rainy season, very steep climbs and large bouldering the whole way in.

Anybody who has been to Costa Rica knows how bad the roads can be, and this was more than a trail than a road.
If your going to CR, you should rent something with 4-wheel drive, if you are cheap, like we were and take your chances in the 4-wheel drive Hyundai, you'll be fine. A great automotive value for sure!
Me, when I go back, I'm upgrading to something that at least has a Low and High 4WD option. Glad we made it out of there alive!
