Cornell West on Barack Obama

We're all people. Don't separate into race. What Obama is doing is uniting people not dividing and catering to one race at a time. And another thing: don't group all white people together. Yes there are some racists or 'supremacists' but it's 2008 not 1948 or 1958 or 1968 they are a minority.

Cornell West is a SNAKE IN THE GRASS. All he does is criticize other people and made famous by writing a book and appearing in the Matrix. He needs to get up off his black behind and go help some black folks instead of criticizing Black Leaders. Nothing positive comes out of his mouth, he lifts no fingers to help no one, and he and his buddy Tavis are just haters(Jesse too). He needs to get a job at a Historically black college instead of trying to ride the white mans tail at Princeton.

The presidential election isn't about "us" (as Dr. West defines it, which is to say that "us" means "African Americans"). It's about America. There is no room for the "us vs. them" rhetoric of militancy in our political landscape.

We have to understand where Cornell West is coming from. We all know that Barack has to sell himself to general America in order to win the election. If you don't believe that then you are blind to the realities that people of color still face within this nation. West is purely stating that Barack can do what is needed to win the election but he still has to hold himself accountable to the community that the general public is going to link him to which is all Black folk within the US.

Also note, most of these "Black old guards" jumped on the Clinton bandwagon.Barack winning the highest office in the land is a threat to them. They have made millions and have careers pretending they are speaking to our needs. Most Black people are not looking for handouts; we want equal access to all that America has to offer.Barack becoming President means we don't have to settle for crumbs,we can have the cake.These old guards need people to be dependent on the system to remain relevant.
