Video Title : Gay Nigerian Activist Davis Mac-Iyalla African
Description : An Evening with Gay Nigerian Activist Mac-Iyalla Hosted by Trinity Episcopal Cathedral June 27th, 2007. Davis Mac-Iyalla, 35, is founder and director of the country's only gay-rights organization, Changing Attitude-Nigeria, which advocates for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people in the Anglican Church and elsewhere in Nigeria. The Episcopal Church is the American wing of the worldwide Anglican Communion, which includes 80 million members in 154 countries. In 2003, the Episcopal Church consecrated the Rev. V. Gene Robinson, the first openly gay bishop. Nigerian Archbishop Peter Akinola has been a leading critic against the ordination of gay bishops and the inclusion of GLBT persons in the life of the church. Mac-Iyalla is a leading voice fighting a proposed bill in his country that would make it illegal for gays to organize, meet in public, or even visit a GLBT website. He has received numerous death threats for his activism, has been fired from his job as a school principal, and forced to live in exile in a neighboring country in West Africa. Prior to declaring his homosexuality, he was an active member of the Anglican Church of Nigeria. In May 2007, he convened a meeting of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender activists from seven West African countries, for the first regional conference of its kind. His recent tour of the U.S. has taken him to 20 cities, and he has addressed the executive council of the Episcopal Church about the dangers faced by GLBT Nigerians.

ori e o pe!!!!!!!!

you straight people think you know everything about being gay. how do you know there aren't true gay nigerians? of course a lesbian nigerian girl would not come out and display her sexuality. 1) because its against her tradition and 2)she can risk her life for being who she is. just because you don't see it openly doesn't mean different sexual preferences were never practiced by nigerians. Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.you can't CONTROL how people live their lives.

whats the use hating or expressing anger towards who's gay? its none of your business, and i don't see why anyone would be concerned with other people's sexual preference behind closed doors. In nigeria, its a normal belief that sex should be conducted behind closed doors - a private matter. So why do you bother about people's sexuality when it doesn't affect you the least bit? YOU CAN'T CHANGE IT!! LET IT GO!! ANGER TOWARDS IT DOESN'T DO ANY GOOD TO THE SOUL IF YOU CLAIM YOU ARE A CHRISIAN.

now i know u are shit.....cause Nigerians are not like that.

I am a Nigerian muslim and I say it's totally OK if someone is gay or lesbian.

What are your values in life?

Not such shock really. I thought everyone would be aware that Nigeria is riddled with many deviated forms of homosexuality, and much human life is considered of little value. Whilst holidaying in Lagos, I was propositioned for gay sex 21 times in 2 weeks. This Nation is a very sick one indeed.

You build so much hate for something you have no control and business over and you call yourselves true christians. NA WA OOO!!!**shrugs**

whats the use of being gay?

Too much ignorance floating on here...My question is, who do you think God is? We are all God, and in the end, we'll all judge ourselves.Everyone has certain morals and beliefs, and they live by it. Why judge someone because they aren't living to YOUR morals and beliefs? We all have our own morals, why force up yours down someone's throat? It would be like someone doing the same to you, and you know thats offensive.
