Daimler SP250 at Silverstone

Video Title : Daimler SP250 at Silverstone
Description : Plug in your stereo, turn up the volume and listen to a V8 on song while lapping Silverstone racetrack!! This was part of the Norwich Union Rally on Sunday 14th October '07 when nearly 700 Classic cars, starting from 6 venues, drove a 150 mile route to finish at Silverstone. The weather was perfect, the route superb, and the company marvellous. A note to the racing pros among you -- this was my 1st time ever on a race track, and at Silverstone there are no kerbs so it is nigh impossible to see where the track goes until you're on the bend (and some of them go on and on!). I spent all the time in 3rd gear and overdrive 3rd, with a maximum of 90mph on the straight. I'll be faster next time! But listen for the rasping tyres - there wasn't much more adhesion left!

Don't be too bothered about being slow on track. For your first time, i'd say you were doing well! The speed will come with time, but it's about the enjoyment of driving a wonderful car in a safe environment. Your Daimler does seem to be a wondeful car and sounds fabulous! You looked like you were having faun anyway! Is the overdrive a Laycock unit or different?

1st class! 5 stars

Good video..... I used to own a V8 2half litre saloon. Great engnes. Your car sounds like an automatic....I thought all SP250's were manual boxes ?? God to hear one of these again anyhow.....

Thank you for your comment! In fact, my car has a standard 4-speed box. (The police SP250s had overdrive). What you're hearing is my overdrive. I was in 3rd gear all the time (should have used 2nd once or twice!), but o'drive 3rd equates to direct top, so 90 mph is no problem. O'drive 4th achieves 100 mph at 4200 rpm. Being on a totally unfamiliar course, it was extremely convenient not having to change gear, so to speak, but merely flick a switch which happens to be on my gear lever!

Great stuff, but less commentary and let the car speak for itself!!!! Does your car have original steering or a rack and pinion conversion? I recently bought my first SP250, I love it!

Fair enough comment, my 19-year old son was my navigator and holding the camera, and doing his best as a frustrated non-driver to contribute to the event. I've had my car for nearly 8 years, and had R P fitted last year by Phillip of Autotec -- it's transformed the car. Other mods over the years too. Have a look at my Facebook. Lorimer
