Mao was ignorant? Have you read any of his articles and poem? I trust me before 1940s there are few people even had a chance to go to school thanks to westen and Japanese invaders.

It's easy to condemn.God's missionarys went to China before Communism.Westen style democracy was introducted before Communism as well,why people choose to believe Mao instead of God and the Nationalist Party. Would God help China to cast off the feudality and colonies?Why Mao had the power to lead a poor and undeveloped China fought off US and its pets in the Korean War.Amazing wasnt it.A great man dont have to be a perfect man,but he or she has to contribut a great deal to his or her country.

Mao killed a million to save a billion from destructions by enemy forces. Many bad things he did were outweight by the good ones. No too bad for a leader.

Well, I am a Chinese, and I'm 40, and I think Mao and the Communist party is the reason why China is still lagging behind most countries in the world. Even after 20 years of economic "miracle", the average Chinese still only makes less than 10% of their Taiwan/HK neighbor. Why? b/c Mao and his cronies were busy with social experiments, destroying traditional values, etc. They did it for a reason-to stay in power at the expense of ruining millions of lives, including those of my family.
