With all respect to the Catholic Church, it is a historic fact that in countries like Poland most Catholic Churches (untill today!) are antisemitic and in the war openly supported Nazism untill the Jews were slaughtered. Let's not forgot that Progroms and attacks against Jewish villages or ghetto's in Poland, Russia and other east-European countries were mostly Catholics for centuries. Also in Holland our Catholic Church openly distance itself from Antisemitic Catholics in (east)Europe. Shalom

So many lies towards the Catholic Church...it only reflects the times we are living in. As you can see, our pope had great love for every man...Benedict has the same. It's love that comes from Jesus Christ towards each of us....because that love is universal...just like the Church is. So when the pope says "jewish brothers" he does mean that! But the world is so cold that it starts to spit everything against that love. Just like Jesus said "they will prosecute you because of mine name"

Wasn't it the Vatican that during the course of WWII firmly avoided to condemn the mass murder of the Jews,although they were presented with lots of evidence including photos and written testimonies? Of course at that time Rome was still controlled by theAxis and an open condemnation would not be a wise thing to do.I believe there is a movie about that too.

Well I do agree that the axis powers did take alot of power in the vatican, but it was the pope who told secretly to catholics to take in the jewish people who were being persecuted and this saved the lives of around 400000 to 500000 jewish peoples.. god bless!

Pope Benedict XVI was in hitler's youth when he was younger just like any other youth who was living during the nazi regime. It was not something he wanted to do. This has been discussed before, please run back to 1978 when he was made cardinal and start there. Come back when you are done.

Is funny that people think the pope now was apart of the nazis, they prob. think he was fighting, yet he was a 14 year old boy then in a seminary/ boarding school with his brother, and it was required as you said to be in the hitler youth because you would be punished otherwise, so I mean really people should become more informed, god bless!

I think you are confusing John Paul II with the current Pope Benedict. There have been stories about Benedict's involvement with the Nazis, however you can't believe everything you hear in the media. We will probably never know the full extent of his involvement (if any), so rather than fixate on that why not wait and see what kind of Pope he becomes? What if he is a good man who will do good things for the world? I say that will be the true test of his character; not his speculatory past.
