Wells came to Motown with the intention of getting a song to Jackie Wilson, but Motown founder Berry Gordy Jr. had other ideas. Instead, Gordy brought her into the studio to record her composition, "Bye Bye Baby." In subsequent releases, songwriter William "Smokey" Robinson emphasized her sultry side. Wells was Motown's first star and toured with the Beatles. Although she left the company at age 21 to pursue a career at 20th Century Fox, Mary Wells never surpassed her output at Motown. She died in 1992. Featured song: "You Beat Me to the Punch" by William "Smokey" Robinson.

Every time I hear this song, my mind goes back to when I was 5 years old, in my sister's room and she played this record a lot. Along with the Jive-Five "What Time Is It", and something by the Marvelettes I think it was "Someday-Someway".....I remember a lot of things when I hear music.

A queen by all means, 1 day we won't be on this earth, and our grandkid's will be singing this songs, Mary I love you and your much alive in my heart, body, soul, I remember as she was lyeing on her death bed, they asked her how she wanted to be remembered, her response was "like a human being" God bless her she's got all of my respects, It seems like all the good ones leave us early in life !!!
