C5's used to pull into charleston alot while i was stationed there in the early 90's. i was an E&E spec on 141's. the base smelled like burned JP 4 for a half hour after one took off. they were usually from DOVER or TRAVIS. i was sent to work on an O2 bottle on one once because i was MA,(most anything)environmental. it was scary just walking up to it because of it's size. the ladder to the flight station seemed like climbing a high rise to my 19yr old eye's and feet.

In 93,this was my music on a flight from mogadishu somalia to dover AFB/and i loved every minute of it

Them General Electric TF39-GE-1C turbofans generating 43,000lbs of thrust each are very loud! Each are capable of gulping 42 tons of air a minute at max takeoff speed.
But they sound sweet!

The flight engineer gives a 25 second count when pilots give the 'go' signal for take off. During those 25 seconds, the pilots advance the throttles n set the power but once the FE calls 'time', no more power adjustments are made.

Yes- I'm a flight engineer.

It brings back so many memories...this beast ( c 5 Galaxy ) is EXTREMELY LOUD..during take off and short landing when i was a kid i used to from JAX NAS to RooseveltRoads NS , Puerto Rico ( Now officially closed NS ) in C-5's the seat face towards the tail. better put on the earplugs they give you unbearable the noise
|
Is galaxy the loudest plane in the world?
can anyone help me with that question?
|
It depends- do airplanes with afterburners count? Yeah, C-5s are pretty loud but have you ever heard a C-141 takeoff? Very loud.
|
Well in fact I've heard the starlifter landing in La Paz and yes, judging that was a landig the c-141 was very loud at that phase.
