Working at Google London

I am currently doing work experience with Google London for 1week, the offices are amazing and it is so laidback.

Is this propoganda, or is it realy that cool to work at Google (speaking as a Linux Engineer i'd be keen to learn).

It is. I've mailed them before. They basically said what was in the video, but that they also play WoW and do a lot of side-projects. some guy made a printer out of legos, that works.

So what if this is a promotional video. They invest a lot of money on their offices so that there can be a great job evironment that can attract the best professionals on the market. I think it is a great idea that could make google preserved for a lot of time.

Don't want to seem miserable - just want everybody to ask more questions. How much pay do you get compared to others around ? The impression I get is "I joined Google because they let me bring my roller-blade-wearing dog".

It shouldn't matter how much money someone makes, as long as you like your job, you wake up in the morning happy and go to be bed happy, that's the most important thing when it comes to work.

How about showing what a potential employee can achieve ? Give an idea, see it through with colleagues, show the end benefits of this idea to the world/ the company, and how they will be rewarded in terms of recognition / pay / etc. Imagine playing table football, getting a massage, chatting with your dog, then watching as an idea of yours is continually blocked as it is vying with 3000 others a month, etc. Get real !!!

its known as establishing an employee value proposition, and becoming an employer of choice through your employer brand. these things help set google apart from other companies, and they're good things too, no other company in the world does stuff like this, and the success is clear, via google's success as a whole. if you look into actually applying at google then they do tell you about development opportunities etc but this stuff is to simply stand out from the crowd. and they do it very well!
