Africa's endangered mountain gorillas - 25 Sep 07

Video Title : Africa's endangered mountain gorillas - 25 Sep 07
Description : Al Jazeera's Yvonne Ndege reports from Virunga National Park near the Democratic Republic of Congo's border with Rwanda on the endangered mountain gorillas who live in a vast expanse of forest there. There are only 720 of them left on earth. But nine of them have been killed since the beginning of this year. Tracking their footprints, Ndege ventured deep into the forest with a rangers' patrol to investigate the threats facing the mountain gorillas. The national park is the kind of habitat that gorillas need to survive. But it's also the theatre of an intense battle between government troops and rebels fighting alongside the renegade general Laurent Nkunda. It's not just the recent fighting that's wreaking havoc on the gorilla population. Poachers set snares, illegal "invaders" and also people going into the park to cut down the trees to make charcoal.

Heres a good question, what did they do to us ?

:( :(

poor gorillas i feel so srry 4 them

Can UN intervention be an option?

Beautiful animals. Very nice job...

This might sound dumb or unrealistic but I remember seeing once a segment on tv about chinese farmers who used Methane gas from a tapped sespool they filled with pig dung. They used this gas for cooking and I guess for light. It seems like a good "green" alternative to charcoal. Just a thought.

You mean you saw Mad Max: Return to Thunderdome?

Now that you mention it I did see it a looong time ago. Doesn't mean it's a bad idea!

In those poor countries like R.D.Congo nature uses to care for itself in harmony with humans except in extreme situations. Political interests+Charcoal mafia= guerrillas+guns+alcohol. Difficult to stop atrocities they do to attract attention. ALJAZEERA has done a great great job!!!. You can see a great homage "IN MEMORIA RUGENDO FAMILY" here in youtube (images recorded the day before they were killed on July 22th by daktari).

Care should flow naturally if the 'self' is widened and deepened so that protection of free Nature is felt and conceived as protection of ourselves ... Just as we need no morals to make us breathe.. You care for yourself without feeling any moral pressure to do it ... If reality is like it is experienced by the ecological self, our behaviour naturally and beautifully follows norms of strict environmental ethics.
