Fast Rope Insertion Extraction System (FRIES): USMC Screw-Up
Video Title :
Fast Rope Insertion Extraction System (FRIES): USMC Screw-Up
Description :
This video exposes yet again the dangerous, half-assed nature of the USMC egomaniac. The disintegration of Force Recon into mere short-range scouts and a desire of the marine grunt infantry to be "special" without paying the price to be initiative-taking, thinking professionals has resulted in a low-speed, helicopter, foot-slogger; a mechanical crutch for the weak unwilling to parachute who don't surprise anyone as they can be heard from miles away:

The USMC can't even do helicopters right; it fails to invest in rear ramp fast rope attachment points so two sticks of troops can slide off the rear ramp as one stick goes down the hell hole as the U.S. Army's MH-47E Chinooks have:

Thus, exposing the hovering helicopter for MINUTES to enemy fires instead of SECONDS.
Next, the rotor down wash is so severe under the sky-gray (attaboy, USMC) CH-53E Super Stallion heavy lift helicopter, that the fast rope is not even touching the ground! Clearly a WEIGHTED, PADDED, SLIDER carry bag needs to be developed (it could be one of the troops' rucksacks) to pull down on the end of the fast rope to create a ground junction holding the rope vertically so troops don't get injured by not having a clearly visibly point to let go of the rope as depicted in our other FRIES video:

Reports say the hurricane-downwash V-22 requires WEIGHTED fast ropes so perhaps these will become standard for all VTOL aircraft that use FRIES.

While the French Commandos are at least wearing rucksacks simulating mission gear, the gyrenes are not even carrying any M16 assault rifles/M4 carbines! Other videos on YOUTUBE show marines fast roping from the hell hole of smaller CH-46 medium-lift helicopters with rucks and carbines so we know ITS POSSIBLE:

The CH-53E is a great helicopter that was ruined by absurd USMC requirements to carry around a built-in fuselage for foot-slogger victims losing 6 TONS of payload that even early "A" models could have been carrying an Ontos or M113-derived "Mini-Gavin" light tank/APC to gain air-mech capabilities like the Russians do with BMDs and our NATO allies do with Gavins, Scimitars, Bv206es, Vikings, and Wiesels. At the very least, a retracting vehicle floor plate/4-point winch system with extended leg landing gear should be developed to hover insert/extract M113 Mini-Gavins by Streamlined External Loading (SEL) if a place to airland them off the rear ramp is not tactically possible or desirable.

If U.S. Army 101st Airborne (Air Assault) troops and gyrenes persist in this dismounted, foot-slogger victim madness

delivered by slow, loud, vulnerable helicopters not even masked by smokescreens
http://www.combatreform.com/smokescreen.htm
we are going to continue to have debacles like took place daily in Vietnam, the Koh Tang fiasco in 1975, BlackHawk Down! in 1993 and the O'Grady near-disaster in 1995.

The V-22 can't carry light tracked tanks and should be discarded. The CH-53 should be made into a "Speed Stallion" using Piasecki VTDP/wings technologies so troops in Mini or AmphiGavins

can be flown in at 250 mph and not get shot-down before getting to fight.

what is the name of this song, and who sings it?
I work on sh*tters and seriously, we only do fastrope in the rear to help people train. We use more traditional methods of insertion while providing more than adequate cover fire with three mounted .50 cals.
If you never made mistakes, you would never try anything new
THEN, after you make the mistakes, you FIND SOLUTIONS.
We have been fast-roping for 15 years in the U.S. military. A weighted rope end is long over-due. We don't expect marines to solve this problem because they a delusional and think they have no problems or just want to "gut it out" which can only go so far, hence the USMC in trucks was AWOL to Bagdad while the Army in tracks waited 6 days for them

EXCELLENT FEEDBACK!
If we used unpolished, rough suede tan boots would we be ok to use the legs to brake when fast-roping?
/watch?v=PjTAkExoR78
Would these boots leave residue?
Im not expert on the subject: personal opinion would be that ANY material that transfers from boot to rope is inherently dangerous. I think the best thing would be eliminate boots on the rope altogether. If we Brits can do it there is no reason the US cant do it to. The only time boots should EVER touch rope is when making an emergency stop, when the rope is wrapped over the top of the lower boot and stood on by the higher boot. But you still brake with the hands, so no danger. Thoughts?
As for the boots you linked to, I'm not totally sure. I agree with the comments on the video about the days of the black boot being numbered (no black in nature etc.) I have never fast roped in desert boots, just issue black leather. They PROBABLY would be less dangerous but if I was following you down the rope I would still prefer you to keep your feet off it! Ship decks are very unforgiving.

i have an all jack but with boots on the rope its not rapid roping, its called swarming and the rope is different. You are however correct and you never swarm on a fast rope!
