my Grandfather was based at east kirkby during WW2 as part of 57 sqd which later became 630 sqd. He was a flight engineer for the lancasters and flew 28 sorties over germany and ocupied europe, including the raid of munchen-gladbach and rheydt, he was also involved in "operation exodus" and "operation dodge" There plane was damaged numerous times by flak and night-fighter attack. He has now since passed away, his ashes are at east kirkby as is a memorial plaque. He would have liked your video.

Thank you for that kind message.I think your grandad sounds like he was a very brave chap indeed and the memorial plaque is a fantastic tribute to his life.:-)

Hate to break up a good argument but the 4 Merlins had radials beat..the germans used to call b-24s furniture vans..nuff said

I have been inside that lancastre for free as i know the man that wons it :)

what's the title of the music?

When will Just Jane be able to fly ?

I saw both Just Jane and City of Lincoln last year. Although City of Lincoln flew, Just Jane was the better experience because you can get so close when she is running. The wing comes right over your head as she taxi's. For a fee you can be aboard for the taxi run, but I have more interest in actual flight (Warbirds Adventures Kissimee Fla, thoroughly recommended).

Just as well we gave you jet engines my YOUNG American friend,or you would be still using ruddy great useless radials! Avro Vulcans (a poorly built Brit bomber?)flew so low in the Arizona war games a few years ago, your radar operators are still trying to find them.

I think this debate does nothing to honour the memory of those who perished in WW2. The RAF suffered 55,573 killed in action. The 8th USAAF 26,000! Anglo-American bombing of German cities claimed between 305,000 and 600,000 civilian lives. The most destructive raids in terms of absolute casualties were those on Hamburg 45,000 dead in 1943 and Dresden 25,000--35,000 dead in 1945. Enough said I think...

Oh dear. I do believe we have a case of "American pride" on our hands here gentlemen. I can see you've already been corrected here my american friend, so I wont make it any worse for you. I will say this though- Dont think the big bad USA is the best at everything, because frankly when it comes to fighting any kind of war... you are pretty shit at it!
