Watch me go down on http://coolbluefilms.com
Made for Chris Simpson in October 2007 this is a film of the world's finest intact example of a submerged B17 bomber. Situated off Island Vis on the coast of Croatia, the aeroplane was shot down by German anti aircraft fire while flying over Slovenia during WWII in 1944. The pilot escaped alive from the attack when it belly landed onto the Adriatic Sea. Known as the "Flying Fortress" the Boeing B17 is best recognised in recent times for being featured in the film Memphis Belle. The music used is Hollow Requiem which was self composed especially for the film. It is one of the finest wreck dives in the world and as I'm sure you will agree with Ivan, was "an excellent day....."

thats a big plane
Hi just saw your thread on youtube, what plane was your granfathers, English, US, and what type, there is loadfs of atuff and sites available on this subject
It was a US B-17), #42-5483. As I understand it was being lent to my grandfather's crew, as theirs was grounded (don't know the specifics on that). They were downed (can't find how). Pilot was WIA/POW, and 5 others (my grandpa one of them) also POW. The bombadier, ball gunner, and waist gunners were all KIA. This was 29 November, 1943 approximately 12 miles west of Bremen, Germany.
So far you probably know this but, 42-5483 belonged to the 360th Bomb Squadron, 303rd Bomb Group at the time it was lost, based at Molesworth. I'll keep looking around for more
just out of interest, what was your granpa's name and rank mate
2nd Lt. marsh, he was the copilot.
I was about to dive this bomber while on vacation on La Corse ut got a very bad cold. Pretty disappointing...
yea, a B-17 crashed in the phillipines in the swamps, now its still there and called the "SWAMP GHOST"
It is, by far most intact B17 that is underwater. You are true, most of it guns is still in place, only two sidemounted M2's are missing - the crew diched them after beeing damaged...
P.S : sorry if i misspelled anything... ;)
very intact it looks like it still has the guns in place
