Dozens gathered in Vancouver Mar 16 in support of a US Senate bill that would end the ban on HIV-positive visitors and immigrants.
Under the US Immigration and Nationality Act, HIV-positive people are banned from entering the US. The proposed bill would repeal that law.
Martin Rooney, who was recently denied entry to the US, spoke about his experience with border officials.
"I was fingerprinted, photographed and run through the FBI Most Wanted list and two and a half hours later, sent home," says Rooney. "I have never felt more violated in my life."
Vancouver-area MPs, a San Diego city commissioner and Egale's executive director Helen Kennedy spoke at the event.

So, you want people carrying deadly diseases to enter your country? I don't understand you. I live in vancouver and know X-TRA is a radical gay magazine. So radical that one of your reps raged on me because I refused to allow that magazine in my office....yeah, I'm so "narrow-minded" not to display your mags talking about sexuality where my clients come with their young kids. Gee....who is narrow minded really? What does gay sex have to do with anything my office is about?
yeh, if you engage in irrisponsible shitty behavior, what you expect?
too rooney, YEH YOU HAVE BEEN MORE VIOLATED IN YOUR LIFE THAN THAT, LOOOOOL, WHEN YOU GOT HIV.
Funny, they won't let in a Canadian with HIV but they'll let millions of Illegal Aliens pour across the border with TB, whooping cough and third world virus'.
these are curable and treatable, hiv is not. fuck off.
HIV is a behavioural disease that if preventable.
It deserves no funding for this reason as everyone knows how it is caused and how it is spread.
AIDS is the biggest lie ever put on the American people!
