Two 2012 British sprint hopefuls, Chris Clarke and Joey Duck, were invited to officially open the enclosure on Tuesday.
The international runners were the first visitors to go through the new viewing area and cut the tape at the new exhibit Cheetah Rock.
And during the event the audience was serenaded by Someries Junior School from Luton, singing along to the rhythm of African drums.
The much-awaited new enclosure, which opens to the public on Good Friday, homes a 5,000-metre landscaped area complete with rock look-out for the cheetahs to roam in.
Visitors will get superb close-up views of the fleet-of-foot cheetahs with only floor-to-ceiling glass separating them from the animals.
The viewing area is housed in an Africa style hut and the new display also includes a safari Land Rover portraying real life cheetah conservation activities in the African savannah.
