Description : All of CoachGerryDuran's Training videos can be found at www.FencingAcademy-Tampa.org. "Working with people that strive for excellence in the practice of Recreational Olympic Sport Fencing". Coaching recreational sport fencing has been part of my life since 1987. In that year I attended a fencing coach's seminar in Orlando FL. The instruction was given by Olympic coach, Maestro Michael DAsaro. From that day on, I knew that "I was" a "Fencing Coach". All that was needed: the skills of "the Coach". To start my new career, I attended and trained at: the United States Fencing Association's (USFA) coaching seminars in 1987 1988, the USFA Coaches College at the University of North Carolina in 1991, the USFA Coaches College at the Olympic Training Center, Colorado Springs in 1992 and 2005, seven day seminar "Sport Fencing The Unity of Theory and Practice" with renowned fencing Maestro Zhigniew Czajkowski in 2006. In 1992 I founded Tampa's Fencing Academy, in Tampa, Florida and became a lifetime member of the U.S. Fencing Coaches Association. In 2002 it was time to retire at age 62, from my job at the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa. Now I can dedicate 25 hours a week to teaching and coaching the sport of fencing at the Academy and local private schools. Their is always something more to learn in this sport, better technique, tactics, pedagogy, and now that the USA has gotten a taste of there first gold fencing metal at the 2004 Athens Olympics, more people are attracted to fencing as a recreational sport. I've taught and coached over 3,000 recreational and competitive fencers ranging in ages from 7 to 70. Everyone can succeed in the sport of fencing. All that's needed is, a love for the game. wow...this video realllllly sucks...just when I thought the student couldn't get any worse, I look at who is 'teaching' him...the coach (if you can call him that) has no clue what he's doing, his footwork is that of a 2 year old, crossing his feet, pointing both of them completely forwards, not lunging with an attack..just terrible P.S in the books, to establish an attack, you MUST perform either a lunge or a fleche..retards, and he shouldn't be riposting without a parry! *smacks himself* god

It's called supination. Its mandatory if you're using a french grip foil.

He's holding his arm straight up because he's in a cease parry. He does that because his opponent will be forced to attack in Quarte. But then again, it shouldn't be straight up. Just a slight curve is good.

wtf. why is the student holdin his palm STRAIGHT up? is it just his style? some people hold it slightly facing up, but STRAIGHT UP!!??!he is movin his hand sideways to parry.........

Check out the Mangiarotti videos I uploaded. Now! This guy is Legendary!

Notice he switched to another video 4:25 to demonstrate the footwork with someone else teaching. I'm sure that he is knowledgeable, but he can't teach. The "foot tempo" thing...Has this guy ever heard of "Into Preparation"!

This is a really bad instructional video. The teacher is lounging off of his toes, and there is no power on the lounge when you do that. The foot has to be flat with the toes slightly pointing in. The form of the student is also not being corrected, and the footwork is really bad. This coach knows what he is talking about, but actually teaching it correctly is another story.

Very good, thanks for posting!

Some useful tips there for a beginner fencer. Thanks for the post.

Teacher is lunging off his toes. -.-
