How does looking at the style prove anything? All it proves is that when "For the Birds" came out and was successful a director working with a small animation house doing commercials said, "Make the birds look more like those birds in that short film..."

No its not. This was animated by a British company. Pixar did do commercials, for Listerine and Colgate and such, but not when the computer animation industry was at the level. They did commercials before Toy Story. With CG levels equivalent to before Toy Story. Squash and Stretch and fluidity of this level was not possible when Pixar was still in the commercial business.
