Video Title : Avro Vulcan Bomber XH558 Lift-Off after £6m Refit. SKY NEWS
Description : Vulcan bomber xh558 take off covered by SKY NEWS. Message from Robert Pleming, Chief Executive VTST, 18th April 2008 The middle of April saw the safe completion of two further test flights, and the Compass Swing at RAF Cottesmore. Some snags were encountered, but that is the point of test flying -- to discover problems! Some of these snags were put right in between the two test flights, but the curtailment of the second flight because the starboard landing gear bay door would not close means that there will be at least one more test flight. We expect that this further flight will happen before the end of April, and therefore don't expect there to be any major impact on our plans to appear at airshows early in the summer. The media coverage of the test flights, especially on the BBC, has been huge, and significant confirmation of the continuing interest by the public at large in the Vulcan. Following the completion of the test flights, there will be an interlude of about a month, during which Marshall Aerospace and the CAA will be completing the final reviews and paperwork leading to the grant of the Permit to Fly. We will then be able to fly again, this time to practice how we will bring XH558 to airshows. The final step is to fly our airshow sequence in front of a CAA Display Examiner, who, if satisfied with its safety, will issue a Display Authorisation. We remain reliant on our supporters for the fund-raising momentum that will take us to the airshow season. We must keep it up -- and I am pleased to let you that because of the test flights, so far the momentum has not dropped. We need to find at least £50,000 cash every month until we have returned to the airshow circuit .

Money well spent keeping this fantastic machine flying, cant wait to see it at Farnborough this weekend

waste of money? what a fucking moron. This is probably one of the finest planes ever created. And they are 100% right on the vulcan inspiring younger people. I'm 19 and have been into planes since i was about 3 (being the nephew of a Lancaster tail gunner) But was only introduced to the vulcan about a year ago. since then it has become a slight obsession of mine, and looking forward to seeing one fly in person for the first time at farnborough next week :D

The fact this was flying around protecting our country is a salient point I feel. Plus, I understand it was rebuilt through charitable donations. Glorious aircraft and glad to see it flying again. Preserve our fine country's history I say.

Waste of money. Why re-build something made to cause death? Should have given to a better cause, such as housing the homeless people, looking after orphans, feeding the starving etc. or to sort out britains anti-social problems.

I saw this take off at Farnborough ( no words just my insides vibrating like a man with no clothes on at Antarctica) . Who gives a fuck about homeless people, they have chosen it to be that way!!

How DARE you comment on how people spend their own money? Her restoration was funded mostly by VOLUNTEERS, and DONATIONS, not by the govenrment. If you want to save the world and feed the hungry, BALLOT THE GOVERNMENT!!! DON'T ATTEMPT TO FORCE GUILT ON THOSE WHO WOULD SACRIFICE SO MUCH TO PRESERVE THE HISTORY OF THIS GREAT NATION, A HISTORY THAT THE 'POLITICALLY CORRECT BRIGADE' WOULD HAVE US FORGET BECAUSE WE MAY POSSIBLY HAVE AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER SLIGHTLY OFFENDED SOMEONE FOREIGN!!!!!!!!!!

brilliant to see her up and away cant wait to see for real.people who complain about the cost do not realise that this was brought about by private individuals who wanted to realise a dream and chipped in if this were possible with concorde count me in

I'll second that!

say that to the people who can get a job but cant be arsed to

Brian, i totally agree with you. i'm just a bit too young to remember the vulcan flying when it was in service, but you can bet your life i'm off to waddington to see her. she's beautiful
