I owned a '63, '64, and 1980 Altman Avanti II. Each one was a blast!

Nice cameo by David E. Davis. But you were WAY off base, Dave. There were less Studebakers in '64 than in '63, even though they were much nicer cars.
The last South Bend Studebakers.
The designer's name was LOEWY. Actually Raymond Loewy didn't even touch a pencil but took credit for the work of three of his employees who designed the Avanti in recordtime while in seclusion in a villa in Palm Springs. Beautyfull car though!
Love these videos, thanks for posting them!
Tom Kellogg appears to have been the driving influence behind the original Avanti design. Loewy was a talented designer, but he also recognized the talents of his employees. He took credit for a lot of other people's work, including the 1947 Studes that Virgil Exner designed and Loewy loathed until they proved popular. Of course, in early 1946, even Crosleys were selling as fast as they could be built. It was a seller's market. In 1950-51, the bullet-nose Loewy favored sold very well, too.
