I read somewhere that his was the Supremes best performance ever. Too bad the camera didnt go to Cindy and Mary for their solo parts. Thanks!!

It really was one of their best that I had seen and I had been watching for about 7 years (1964) by this point. I remember seeing this performance when it originally aired. They had the song & moves down pat after nearly a year performing it. Great!

I think the Supremes themselves were amazed how fast "Up the Ladder" climbed the charts and how seamless the transition was from Diana Ross to Jean Terrell. I do not think Diana was surprised; she always felt the Supremes could go right on with the right lead singer. She found she had a much harder task going solo, even though Motown was pushing her already as a show business legend. Of course, she was equal to the task and has always been equal to any task. A thoroughbred, a champion always.

Wow!! This is great!! Jean tore it up on Up The Ladder To The Roof!! But on "Someday" I was listening to Mary and Cindy!!! Everyone's vocals were great!!! I enjoyed hearing Smokey, too!!! Thanks!!

If it's any consolation, I've had a much worse copy of this show since the 80's - The sound is so much better on this. Jean sounds absolutely SUPREME! Thanks sooooo much for posting this - love it! Stoned Love, Steve.

This was Fantastic!!! I had heard about this clip and am fortunate to see it whatever condition it is in! Thanks for sharing!

I've read that this was from Smokey & The Miracles' syndicated TV special aired in December 1970, guest-starring The Supremes plus several other of the Motown greats. God forbid some media outlet issues it on DVD in pristine format someday.. Thanks a lot for posting!

You're welcome! :)
Was the Smokey Robinson special holiday-related (since it aired in December)? This is unfortunately the only clip I've seen from this show.
|
The special was not holiday related. As I recall, not all of the Miracles were present. In addition to the Supremes, it also featured a performance by dancer/singer Fran Jeffries.
