Que huevones¡¡¡¡

Were the crew faced with an inquiry board? Even if your hook breaks you should still have the throttles rammed to the stops.

Happened on USS Lexington 80 miles south of Pensacola. VA-42, A-6 training squadron, was doing pilot quals. Pilot and B/N were both doing their first arrested landings in an A-6.The hook broke & plane was 10 kts below stall speed going over the edge>LSO called for 'eject', and they did. A/C was at full power, trimmed for take off, and about 800 lbs lighter with no crew or seats. Did perfect hammerhead stall about 3K' up, missed Lex by about 1/2 mile. I was in trailing A-6 in pattern. Crew was OK

Thanks you for the update! very interesting.

thats sod's law..if he'd stayed in it would of crash..chose to eject.and off it went..

While it looks like they chickened out, the plane would have gone in if the pilots and seats had still been on board.

Hope the ship missed them. Dont know what you guys are laughing about. Happens lots on carriers.

LOL! the A-6 kept flying

haha! It didn't crash! The pilot powered up again, thought he wasn't going to make it and they made the call to eject and watched their plane fly off without them. I'm sure he thought it was a little too close for comfort.
