I'm learning how to SCUBA dive right now I think if a sea lion was biting my head I'd probably FLIP (no matter how cute they are). Do they puncture or do they just nibble??

i was just thinking the same thing... freaky!

You can certainly feel the pressure, but they're not chomping down hard at all. Same goes if they chew on your arm or leg -- not biting enough to puncture a shell drysuit. I've had bruises before though!

Update: First check out dive was at Anacapa. There was a sea lion checking the us student divers out at about 30'. Blew bubbles and jet. First dive with my NAUI cert was at Casino Point. There was a sea lion just chilling out at the rocks and watching divers come in/out of the park. Curious little guys.
