December 26, 2007: The eagles enjoy themselves at Goldstream Estuary. Juveniles spar with each other over food. Adults don't like to share, either!
The cameras are located at Goldstream Provincial Park, 16 km northwest of Victoria on southern Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada.
From late October through December of each year, the Goldstream River is the site of an annual salmon spawning run. Chum, coho and chinook salmon enter the river via Finlayson Arm from the Pacific Ocean. The Estuary is closed to the public during this time, and as a result bald eagles have become common there. The eagles feed on the dead salmon and nest in the area during the summer.
