Dr. Marlena Evans became possessed by the devil because Stefano allowed Marlena's soul to be weakened and susceptible to outside and evil forces when her made her his Queen of the Night. During their late night rendezvous when he would sneak from his neighboring penthouse into her armoire and closet into her bedroom to awaken her, she became weak, tired, and distressed thinking Stefano's tricks were a dream. The devil instead caught ahold of her.
