That's a very good question. His wife went into hiding so she might have a chance at living a "normal" life again. Sonny went on to live the life his father had lived, becoming a "mob boss" but not to the extent and power of his father. He is said to have been hot-headed, not really a thinker like Al Capone so never won the respect Al Capone had. There are many versions to this as the mafia world was one of a code of silence, so I guess the true story will always be heresay.
