I think 3 of Dutch's world records still stand.
The narrator pronounced JD's Dad's name incorrectly.
It's pronounced 'DUTCHendorf'-hence Henry Sr's nickname,'Dutch'.
Whilst the correct German pronunciation would be closer to 'Doytchendorf',(meaning 'German village')John said his antecedents decided upon arriving in America, to choose a pronunciation they felt was less German and more Anglicized.
Dang he looks like George Gobel ; -)
I bet John and Ron saw that video many times growing up. They had a pretty cool dad. Yes, I can see where John Denver got his love for flying.
Fascinating look at John's father.
No wonder he loved flying so much!
It was in the genes!
:-)
(BTW,small factoid correction cos I'm an anal-retentive fan with no life:JD's dad was H J Deutschendorf SENIOR.JD is the HJ Deutschendorf Jr.)Thanks so much for posting this terrific archival footage!
Extra trivia:I think I recall reading that the Hustler had a warning system with commands recorded in a woman's voice.According to dutch,"u might ignore a man's voice, but not a woman's!")
