Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss (Origin 1992)

dam i remember this one, me and me mate always played it non stop after school. dont spose theres anyway theres a copy of this that runs on comps nowadays? or roms?

The music is actually quite excellent, if you listen beyond the early 90's synth doodling. The MIDI files are available on the net, I suggest pushing them through a good sample bank. I have played a lot of games, but a good soundtrack is rare. The Ultima Underworld and early Wing Commander games still stand out of the crowd. Even the normal ambient music is nice to listen to.

The one thing I have to point out though is the hopelessly amateurish voice acting in the intro. Sounds like a school play in progress.

Well, in my case I'm trying to demonstrate the whole game, hence the music. It's not a bad musical score overall, and at least it dynamically changes with what's going on while you play, which is another pretty groundbreaking aspect of this game.

Why do people play the game with music?!?!?!
