Benedict arrived yesterday, and it's first visit to the U.S. Earlier today, more than 9 thousand people greeted the Pope at a White House ceremony. This evening, Bush will host a birthday party in Benedict's honor. He's 81 today. On his trip over to the U.S., the Pope chose to bluntly address the sex scandal within the Catholic Church, saying he's deeply ashamed by the action of the pedophile priests. The Pope is also likely to address the U.S.-led war in Iraq and the upcoming presidential election. Today marks the one-year anniversary of the shootings at Virginia Tech University. Last year, 32 students and teachers were gunned down on campus by fellow student, Seung-Hui Cho. Classes have been canceled today for fear of a copycat strike. The university is holding a number of events to remember those who lost their lives, including a ceremony this morning and a candlelight vigil tonight. A new poll out shows Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain is even with Democratic rival Barack Obama and narrowly leads Hillary Clinton. The two Democrats have gained ground on the Arizona Senator nationally in the last month. Obama has gained six points recently to tie with McCain at 45 percent. Clinton trails her Republican counterpart by 5 points. Clinton and Obama will go head-to-head next Tuesday in Pennsylvania for the Democratic primary contest. Three people are dead from wildfires that have ripped through Colorado. The fires have scorched thousands of acres and forced hundreds of residents to evacuate. By last night, firefighters had contained 50 percent of the blaze. The fires apparently broke out after a wetter than normal winter followed by a dry March. That's all for now. i heard that Bush said to the pope when he was leaving "next time bring the mrs."

There is a heinous error in this story. Classes were not cancelled on this day at Virginia Tech because they feared a copycat. They were cancelled because students, faculty and staff needed the day to mourn and remember. It would have been too difficult to sit in classes, and no one would have been able to focus. There certainly was no fear of a copycat however.

Benedict was forced into the Hitler youth...than he was arrested for trying to flee because he did not agree with the Nazis. There are 860,000 Jewish survivors saved by the Catholic Church...there alive today. Some have actually done documentaries you can look it up online. Some day you should buy this thing called a history book and read it! You will learn so much. These stupid allagations came way way after WWII, and history says the Chruch saved Jews, and the JEWS say we saved them too!

The Pope was a member of "Hitler's Youth" during his teen years in Germany but it was against his very will because during that time youth were obliged and force to join Hitler's youth..

.. the non-denomimational label seems to be the so called "spiritual" and politically trendy and "corect" to be among churches ...very convenient so that they can interpret the bible any way they want (this is how heresies and sects began in the west)... the pope of rome with all his defects has done more to spread the NAME of the LORD JESUS than ANY of those right wing nuts on TV here in the USA every sunday....

Hey flomcat: You might want to take a look at the 7th D's who have rightly labeled the RCC the auntee-Christ. And the Inquisition is much more subtle these days altho murdering abortion clinic workers is not too subtle, is it?
