STORY:
France's ready-to-wear spring and summer shows began in earnest yesterday at the Tuileries gardens.
Christian Dior started off with daring black short skirt and pants ensembles, some with bare shoulders and others with sharp necklines and cleavage.
Galiano's collections included mixtures of bright colours that seemed to fade as the models walked out with lighter outfits in an apparent change of mood, bringing a certain lightness and transparency to the catwalk.
Glamorous flowing gowns in soft camel, green and ivory colours followed a line-up of short flirty dresses, before a stunning black embroidered dress made its mark on the runway.
In a time when the global economic downturn has most industries rattled, Burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese said she thought the fashion industry would always endure.
Meanwhile around 100 designers will be showing designs over the coming week at "Outside the Dior" show.
