Hi limpit... I'm new to the reef hobby, so sorry if the questions are nieve.
When you complete you water change, do you heat the new water up to match the tank water?, and once you have mixed your new slat water in your container, how long can it last if continually mixed by the pump.?
|
Those are 2 really good questions and something that I should have talked about in the video.
Yes, you should match the water change water to as close to your tank temp as possible.
Letting the salt mix mix with your RO water for several hours is recommended and I have left mine sit for several days circulating with a water pump with no problems but if you let it sit and you notice a film growing on the sides of your mix vessel, that is too long.

Thanks for your answers, and in reply to the r/o water etc... i wanted to ask how long the r/o water could last if circulated.....for example, i i made 100 gallons of R/O water but only added 25 gallons a week to my tank, would the water last a month, or would i need to make only 25 gallons a week instead of filtering it in a large batch... hope that makes sense??

Your question makes perfect sense.
I have left RO water sit in a drum for several weeks circulation with never any problem.
Just make sure that the container you are storing your RO water and saltwater in are non-leaching food safe containers.

Hey Limpit. Great informative video as always.
My municipal water runs around 35-45 ppm on the TDS meter we have at work (at a LFS). Do you think I get by with only a DI unit for my water here instead of buying an RO as well?

Hey i just bought a refractometer like yours and the manual told me to srew the srew until the lines were at zero but the srew couldn't go any more. SO now i'm afraid i'll get bad results. I check it again and it showed the results i got the first time1.025 and thats what i want but i'm afriad i messed something up. What did you do with yours????

I have been using Reef Crystals for a long time with no problems. After I made this video I did run into some issues with it and have since switched to Oceanic and Seachem salt mixes.
I have never used the premixed sea water so I cannot comment on it really.
